Adventure talks that inspire, entertain, and surprise
David Edwards' adventure talks go beyond being a collection of beautiful images
and exciting activities. The lectures provide insights into the area, and the stories
make the experiences come alive for the audience. Click on a blue heading to find out more about each talk.
This talk details a trip around northern Canada in search of extreme
mountain wilderness, which yielded humour, excitement, and an appreciation of a
remote way of life. Rivers were (nearly!) crossed, crevasses and grizzly bears
were avoided, and a mountain range on the Alaska/Canada border ascended. But it
was the people and communities he met on the way that added a special flavour.
This lecture follows David's exploits as a leader on a youth expedition that
spent three months living in the bush surrounded by wild animals. Charged by an
elephant, attacked by hyenas, trekking for miles for water, and working out how
to keep lions at bay, David had his work cut out keeping everyone safe. And the
expedition didn't start well when he had his passport stolen in Zimbabwe and
had to smuggle himself across the border into Botswana...
David was an expedition adviser for The Royal Geographical Society, and here shares his expertise.
